𝐂𝐑𝐎𝐒𝐒𝐕𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐄, 𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐧. — Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster has successfully completed the Appalachian Leadership Institute, a leadership development program sponsored by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC).
The Appalachian Leadership Institute brings together leaders from across Appalachia to strengthen their ability to address regional challenges and opportunities through collaboration, innovation, and community engagement. Participants take part in a comprehensive curriculum focused on economic development, workforce development, infrastructure, tourism, leadership, and other issues impacting Appalachian communities.
As a member of the Appalachian Leadership Institute Class of 2026, Foster joined leaders from throughout the 13-state Appalachian Region for leadership training, site visits, and discussions highlighting successful community development initiatives.
"It was an honor to represent Cumberland County throughout this program," said Foster. "The fellowship provided a valuable opportunity to learn from leaders across Appalachia, exchange ideas, and gain new perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing our communities. I am proud to join the ranks of Appalachian Leadership Institute Fellows and look forward to applying what I learned to benefit the citizens of Cumberland County."
Foster said one of the most valuable aspects of the fellowship was building relationships with fellow leaders from across the region and learning how communities are addressing common challenges through innovative and collaborative approaches.
The Appalachian Leadership Institute is designed to develop a network of informed and engaged leaders who are committed to advancing economic opportunity and improving quality of life throughout Appalachia.
